Alumni/ae Weekend - Another Great Success!
We were pleased to welcome eight classes back to campus this year for
NUSL’s Reunion and Alumni/ae Weekend. Our returning alumni/ae enjoyed
the opportunity to relive memories, renew friendships, reconnect with
professors, and get to know our new dean, Jeremy Paul. In terms of
fundraising, our reunion class committees have thus far raised close to
$400,000 in a combined effort, setting a new record for the school. We
extend our sincerest thanks to our Reunion Class Committee members and
to all who helped make the weekend a fun and refreshing experience for
all!

Law Practice Management Seminar: Access to Justice
Northeastern University School of Law is a national and international
leader in providing students with not only the theoretical education
necessary to analyze the complex legal challenges faced in the practice
of law, but also the practical applications of these skills through
experiential learning. This year we have added a new course to the
curriculum which embraces these ideals entitled "Law Practice Management
Seminar: Access to Justice,” taught by Professor Jim Rowan and Sofia
Lingos '09.
The seminar challenges conventional law practice
management by exploring means of methods of filling the market gap in
the provision of legal services to middle-class clients. Using the
vehicle of a business plan, students investigate and document ways using
improved marketing, staffing patterns, technological innovations, and a
variety of other tools to provide legal services to underserved
portions of the market in a sustainable and economically viable fashion.
This course is not only designed to educate the entrepreneurial
attorney interested in setting up shop after graduation, but introduces
tools and platforms relevant to any practitioner.

us for an evening of historical and literary exploration with Nobel
Prize and Pulitzer Prize winner Toni Morrison, presented by the
Northeastern University School of Law's Civil Rights and Restorative
Justice Project, in collaboration with the Northeastern University
Humanities Center. Professor Morrison and representatives of the Civil
Rights and Restorative Justice Project will discuss the harms suffered
by so many during the Civil Rights era and highlight the current work to
restore justice.

Maggie Hassan ’85 Elected Governor of New Hampshire, Other Graduates Take State Senate Seats
Former
New Hampshire Senate Majority Leader Maggie Hassan '85 was elected as
governor of the Granite State on November 6. Hassan is the first NUSL
graduate ever elected governor and will be the only female Democratic
governor in the country when she is sworn in in January. A former
three-term state senator, Hassan is the second woman to ever be elected
New Hampshire Governor.
Also victorious in their respective
state senate races were Mike Barrett ’77 (3rd Middlesex, Mass.), Frank
Lombardi ’88 (District 26, R.I.), and Karen Spilka ’80 (2nd Middlesex
and Norfolk, Mass.).

Northeastern's "long tradition" of hands-on training is hailed in an
article on how law schools nationwide are finally "beginning to offer
courses that prepare students for in-house careers—often by serving up
real-life challenges."

Northeastern law students won all four individual and team categories
at the Northeast Regional Mediation Tournament held in September.
