Practice-Related Tips: B"law"ging
Sophia Lingos '09
Lingos Law, LLC

Production and distribution of our thoughts, research, and ideas has evolved with the creation of blogging. We are no longer constrained by the publication process of invitation, drafting, review, and possible rejection. B“law”gs (law + blog) have created the ability for an individual (or firm) to be the author, editor, publisher, and promoter. WordPress and Blogger are user-friendly platforms on which you can create a free blog.

Blogs have taken the place of the traditional printed newsletters. The electronic format allows the receiver not only access to a single publication, but those archived in the library. Interested individuals can also “subscribe” to receive ongoing updates. Additionally, blogs allow readers to share your content with minimal effort to others who they believe may be interested in a particular topic. We even have free distribution outlets as you and your followers can promote your piece by sharing through various online networks such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. As an added benefit, search engines love content creation and therefore blogs organically move you up in rankings.

You can blog about any number of topics, but consider highlighting your practice area, successes and interests. Keep your topics timely. Visit LexBlog and view the ABA Journal Blawg 100 list to see what other legal bloggers are writing about. Don’t forget to join in on the conversation. Find inspiration in your daily interactions, but do NOT disclose any confidential information and protect clients’ anonymity unless given express permission to identify them and their matter. Sign up and start to share.

West Coast Swing

Dean Jeremy Paul visited with west coast alumni/ae in February, sharing the latest news about NUSL and his vision for the school’s future. In San Francisco, close to 50 alumni/ae from the Bay Area gathered with the dean for a graduate reception at Perry’s on the Embarcadero. Dean Paul was also the guest of honor at an event hosted by Northeastern’s new campus in Seattle. Seattle Dean and CEO Tayloe Washburn described this new model of education to the Seattle-area graduates of the School of Law who attended.

Connections Networking Event a Great Success

Connections 2013 was held on Feb. 7 at Ropes & Gray, LLP. We had a fantastic turnout from a range of class years and legal backgrounds and were thrilled to have a hand in creating so many opportunities for students and graduates to connect. We always enjoy the energy and dedication that our graduates continue to bring to this event. Thank you for sharing your expertise with students. Welcome remarks were provided by Dean Jeremy Paul and David Chapin, Managing Partner of Ropes and Gray, LLP.

Thank you also to our sponsors: Demeo & Associates, P.C.; Morgan, Brown, & Joy, LLP; Ropes & Gray, LLP; and Sherin and Lodgen, LLP. Without their support, this worthwhile event would not have been possible.
