Throughout history there have been many artifacts, paintings, and more which have been passed on through the generations, or some items have been purchased at yard sales or flea markets. Some contain a high value, while others hold only sentimental value. Gather with Paul Royka, a world-renowned appraiser and consultant, as he discusses the art of appraising items and knowing how to avoid fakes and scandals. Don’t forget to bring some of your old and rare items to the program for appraisal by Royka immediately following the lecture!

Men’s Ice Hockey: Northeastern vs. Merrimack

Looking to build off the foundation laid in Jim Madigan’s first season behind the bench as head coach, Northeastern opens its 2012-13 season against a tough Hockey East opponent with Merrimack. The Huskies are 8-6-1 against the Warriors over the past five seasons and this is the first of two games against Merrimack this season at Matthews Arena.

Get ready to laugh your pants off when hilarious comedienne Sarah Silverman takes the stage at Matthews Arena! Originally a writer and occasional performer on Saturday Night Live, Silverman has grown in popularity and won two Emmys for her role in “The Sarah Silverman Program” and her musical collaboration with Matt Damon. Known for her outrageous humor and joking nature about controversial topics and social taboos, Silverman is sure to keep you laughing all night long. Funny man Nick Swardson – a comedian, writer and producer in his own right, who has worked on Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions, Comedy Central’s Reno 911! and “Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time” – will open the night. Women’s Ice Hockey: Northeastern vs. Union

Coming off their first-ever Hockey East regular-season title and
their first Beanpot championship since 1998, the Huskies kick off the season with a non-league matchup against Union. The Huskies have reloaded this season, looking to top last season’s 22-7-4 mark, which included Northeastern’s highest national ranking in 10 years. Plus, the Hockey East and Beanpot title banners will be raised before the puck drops!

The Huskies will no doubt need very little motivation when the Eagles skate into Matthews fresh off winning their fifth NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey championship last spring. This is the first of two games against Boston College in the season’s first 10 days so it promises to be an exciting matchup. The young Huskies have another year of experience under their belt in the challenging Hockey East conference and have also added some exciting newcomers this fall.
