Gerald Herman, Assistant Professor, Department of History, College of Social Sciences and Humanities

Cinema and film have impacted many areas in our society including arts, technology, and politics. As global events occurred and tastes and technologies changed over the years, the film industry also made changes to coincide with current events. Professor Herman will take an in-depth historical look at how some of the world’s greatest events impacted film up through the mid-20th century. He will also look how the creation of “Hollywood” influenced the transformation of film.

Tanya Kropinicki, AS'08

A shared love of food proved to be a saving grace for Tanya Kropinicki, AS’08, and two of her co-workers when company downsizing resulted the elimination of their positions.

“It first started as a joke,” said Kropinicki, who had worked in her company’s marketing department after graduating with a degree in Communications Studies. “None of us had any experience in the restaurant industry except for cooking and waitressing. But we did some research, looking into what it would take. It was always a ‘what-if’ kind of thing. Then ‘what-if’ happened.”

Much of the research Kropinicki and her friends conducted centered on exclusivity: what food could they provide that wasn’t available anywhere else?
